During its February session, the Supreme Sock Council decided to immerse itself in the studies of the history of art. The Councilors that would obtain the highest grades on the final exam were to be rewarded with a truly regal prize: the right to determine the artist to inspire the February sock prototype. Unfortunately, we seem to have devised too difficult a test, as only one student attained an A. The sole consolation remains that at least the said student had a very good hand when choosing the artistic inspiration for the sock’s blueprint. This Councilor chose Piet Mondrian, the Dutch painter of the first half of the 20th century and founder of neo-plasticism, mainly in order to prove to his colleagues that one must always aim high. Mondrian did himself have high aspirations, as he attempted, using as much abstraction as possible, to capture universal harmony and the essence of life itself. Granted, in producing socks our goals are a touch more modest, however the maximum satisfaction of all members of our Club does not come without effort.
